Frequently Asked Questions

How Do I Know If My Project Requires Permits?

Every municipality has its own bylaws. We have a team of highly experienced landscape designers who have completed a number of projects over the years. In the event that you are unsure about the specific action required (if any) for your project, our landscape designers will be glad to assist you in obtaining the necessary permits.

How Does the Pool Contracting Process Work?

Our landscape designer will first meet with you to discuss project details (vision, time frame, and budget). We will present you with mockups followed by a project estimate. Before the implementation phase begins, the correct permits and codes will be obtained.

Please refer to the Pool Contracting Process (above) for more details.

How long does it typically take to install a pool?
It typically takes anywhere from 3 to 8 weeks to install a pool, depending on the size and complexity of the project.
What type of pool should I choose?
The type of pool you choose will depend on your budget, personal preference, and the space available. If you are looking for a low-maintenance option, an above-ground pool or a vinyl-lined pool may be the way to go. For more of a custom look and feel, an in-ground gunite or fiberglass pool would be best. You can also consider installing a natural rock or artificial stone waterfall feature. Once you decide on which type of pool works best for you, consider features such as energy efficiency, safety features like automatic covers, and UV sanitation systems for cleaner water.
How much will it cost to install a pool?
The cost to install a pool will depend on the size, type, and features you choose. Generally speaking, it can range anywhere from $15,000 for an above-ground pool to around $50,000 for an in-ground pool with several custom features. In addition to the cost of the pool itself, you may have additional expenses such as labor costs for installation, permits and fees, decking and landscaping.
Are there any zoning regulations or restrictions to consider when installing a pool?
Yes, it is important to check with your local government before installing a pool. Most municipalities have specific zoning regulations when it comes to the size, location, and type of pool. For instance, some may require that in-ground pools be at least five feet from any property lines. It’s also important to ensure pooled areas are properly fenced in and safe for children. Be sure you meet all zoning requirements prior to installation!
How long will it take to install my pool?
The amount of time it takes to install a pool will depend on the type, size, and features you choose. For an above-ground pool, installation should take no more than one day. An in-ground pool may take anywhere from 3-10 days depending on the complexity of the project. It is important to keep in mind that there may be unforeseen delays due to weather conditions or other factors. Once installation is complete, additional time will be required for filling and treating the water as per manufacturer’s instructions.
How deep should my pool be?
The depth of your pool will depend on the activities you plan to use it for. Most in-ground pools range from three to eight feet deep, with a typical size being around five and a half feet. An above-ground pool could be as shallow as two feet for wading or up to five and a half feet if you want to dive. Depending on your intended use, consult with our experts to determine the best depth for your pool.
What kind of features can I add to my swimming pool design?
Swimming pool features come in many shapes and sizes. Popular features include diving boards, water slides, pool heaters and pumps, swim-in benches, lights and/or fountains for nighttime swimming, hot tubs, spas, grottoes, and tanning ledges. Other design options like vanishing edge designs or custom tile designs create a unique look to your pool space. Whatever type of feature you decide on, ensuring safe access is key.
Is landscaping important around the swimming pool area?
Landscaping around a swimming pool area is an important part of creating a beautiful backyard oasis. Incorporating trees, plants, and flowers can help create privacy and shade, as well as add color and texture to your outdoor space. Utilizing hardscapes like flagstone pathways, pergolas, or retaining walls to define the pool area can also help create an inviting atmosphere for relaxing and entertaining.
